Kathmandu Research Institute for Biological Sciences (KRIBS) in association with Society for Applied Microbiology, U.K. organized a one-day meeting on the theme “Microbiological Sciences for a prosperous Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal” in Kathmandu. The meeting was conducted with an aim to inform the concern bodies about the role and importance of microbiology in newly formed federal system of the country.
The meeting brought together experts from related scientific field of microbiology and provided a platform to share their ideas and opinions about the advances, achievements, hurdles, problems and the solution to the problems evident in the field of microbiology. The meet thus consisted of senior scientists, researchers, university scholars, government representatives, concerned stakeholders and the students, actively working in various aspects of biological sciences.
In the first half of the program, the invited expertise of the subject area delivered their respective views on the topic of the meeting which was followed by a group discussion session where each participant of the meet expressed his/her opinion and provided their feedback on the role of microbiological sciences towards a prosperous federal democratic Nepal.
Several dignitaries of academia were a part of the program as invited guests where Prof. Dr. Rameshwar Adhikari, Executive Director, Research Centre for Applied Science and Technology (RECAST), Tribhuvan University was the the Chief Guest of the event. Besides presenting his ideas on the theme of the meeting, Prof. Adhikari expressed his happiness in being a part of the program and appreciated and congratulated the effort and hard work of the organizers involved in setting up of such a remarkable event. Meeting was also featured by Mr. Madhab Dhungel, Executive Vice-President, National Youth Council, Government of Nepal, Ministry of Youth and Sports where Mr. Dhungel delivered his noteworthy talk to keep the microbiological sciences at the center of research and development of the country. Furthermore, meeting was cherished by Prof. Dr. Shiba Kumar Rai, Research Director, Nepal Medical College and former member, National Planning Commission, Government of Nepal where the keynote speech of Prof. Rai was focused on holistic vision for collaboration in terms of research and development. Similarly the value of the event was heightened by the speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Niranjan Parajuli, Prof. Dr. Anjana Singh, Dr. Ashim Dhakal and Mr. Bishnu Prasad Upadhya among others. Moreover, the meeting was featured by the speech of Dr. Santosh Thapa, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas, U.S.A., and Fulbright scholar Brook Milligan, Department of Biology, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Invited speakers and distinguished delegates were from different organizations including Ministry and Department of Health, Government of Nepal. More than 170 participants of the meeting were from research institutions, government ministries, academia, public societies and community representatives. Meeting was fully covered by local news media.
The program was commenced at 10 AM and ended by 5 PM and as acclaimed by the testimonies to the event, was successful in justifying its goal to inform the general public and concern stakeholders about the role and importance of microbiology in the newly formed federal system of the country.
The noble event was technically supported by Microbiology Research Society (MRS), Kathmandu Center for Genomics and Research Laboratory (KCGRL) and Sandeep’s Scientific Vlog. The organizer committee highly acknowledged Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM), U.K. for generous support of SfAM to make the meeting a very successful.
